The most bizarre thing happened yesterday –it rained ALL DAY. I felt transported back to Washington State, but with fewer, smaller trees.
Since the weather was so gloomy, we confined the day’s excursion to…. antiquing!
Our first stop was the ghost town of Jerome, AZ, which we’ve been to before, but this time we particularly went to visit the House of Joy. Formerly a bordello, it now houses political & historical antiques (like medals of China’s Chairman Mao Zedong)… and belly dancing outfits.
After lunch, we drove around the town.

Too rainy & foggy to explore this part of the town –not to mention the fog added a new level of creepiness. We will definitely have to go back on a sunnier day!
After Jerome, we headed to the Antique Trove mall in Scottsdale.
A colonial summons for… committing fornication. Click to view enlarged image & read the summons.
Raggedy Anne dolls… my childhood is now considered antique.
Civil War swords
The best part was booth #808, which had a crazy amount of political memorabilia from the USA. The booth owner, Ron Puelcher, has been collecting items for 40 years, since he was 8! Ron was a fountain of information on pinbacks.
Some of these are replicas but there were plenty of originals!
The next stop was to the Brass Armadillo antique mall in Phoenix, AZ:
The amount of stuff there is overwhelming.
Admittedly, while husband goes for political & historical memorabilia… I go for vintage brooches (& teacups).
1984 was a good year.
There were plenty of… interesting, non-antique items….
Anyone need a pitcher with former president LBJ’s face on it? Or perhaps the Dopey tumbler is more your style…
This Clintonoply board game had to be the highlight of what we saw today.
