This past 4th of July and the weekend was spent traipsing about our nation’s capital, Washington DC. My first day after flying in was spent at one of my favorite museums, the National Gallery of Art. This is my 3rd time visiting (2011 trip here).

No visit is complete without a visit to a zoo! At least in my books anyway. Sometimes I think I went to college for the wrong thing & should’ve been a zoologist.
Anyways, we spent the day sweating out the heat & humidity by exploring the National Zoo –free of charge!
“Hey sweet cheeks.”
Someone sneezed on me while I was perusing the National Art Gallery yesterday & I ended up catching something (thanks buddy, whoever you are). I spent all day yesterday downing medicine. Today I felt a bit better, enough to venture out but by the end of the day, I think I made myself worse. Don’t worry –I didn’t sneeze on anyone when I went exploring.
My first stop, the Smithsonian Institution Building (The Castle). What a disappointment! The outside promises exhibits of wonders inside.
Sadly, that is not the case. The Castle was mostly filled with fat, sweaty tourists sitting around avoiding the heat.
My next stops were much much more interesting: National Museum of American History & Ford’s Theatre
