The highlight of our Ocho Rios, Jamaica trip was definitely the hike up Dunn River Falls. Was it worth it though?
There were upsides & there were downsides.
Husband did this excursion years ago & had a fantastic time then so we thought it would be great to do again. This time around it just so happened that we weren’t lucky in our mode of transportation.
Waiting in line for our “caravan”.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica made me pleasantly nostalgic for the Philippipines:
- beautiful tropical landscape
- little shacks selling snacks along the main road
- goats roaming free
Unfortunately, the 2 hour ride to to our destination dampened much of the joy we may have had: The caravan was cramped, hot, stifling, LOUD & sounded like it would break down at any moment.
After the van ride, we were transported to the falls via a rickety, old boat that looked & sounded like it would break down at any moment considering it was puffing huge plumes of black smoke along the way. Another disappointment as we had signed up for a CATAMARAN & rum punch!
After that questionable & long van/boat ride, we finally made it to Dunn River Falls!
Where Dunn River Falls empties out into the ocean.
Contrary to this photo, it was CROWDED. I edited the people out. :]
The cold water was definitely refreshing.. but very, very cold (if you couldn’t tell by our expressions)!
We had to hold hands as we hiked up the falls.
The hike up Dunn River Falls: 2 thumbs up. Getting to the falls is another matter!
Bat towel awaiting us after our excursion.
