With our short time in Telluride, we wanted to fit in a short but scenic hike amongst our ghost town exploring adventures. Someone was kind enough to give me directions to a well kept secret hike on the Bear Creek Trail. When I say “well kept secret”, I mean that I searched online for 2 hours trying to find out how to get to this secret paradise, until I gave up & asked someone on a social networking site.
Bear Creek Trail is pretty popular & well traversed. We came across a lot of happy dogs and their humans.
Surrounded by beautiful Aspen Trees,
We came across a geocache as we were searching for the trail to Little Hawaii.
If you look, Little Hawaii is not difficult to find. You just have to know where to look.
The recent rains made the logs slippery.
It’s a little difficult getting down to the river, especially with the recent rains making everything slippery. In fact, I kicked a lot of mud on my poor husband when he was climbing down below me to the river. But the view is worth every mud stain!
Isn’t it amazing what water does to rock over time?
Wet feet is inevitable on this trail by the way.
I had the brilliant idea of taking my shoes off to wade in the water –it was frigid & the rocks hurt. But they stop hurting after a while when your feet have nearly frozen over. Brilliant.
Fungi on the trail.
And berries.
After our successful hike, we lunched in Telluride. We actually didn’t spend much time here as it was crowded with hippies from the film festival going on.
We’re going to keep Telluride’s secret by not posting the directions on here, but if you send us a message, we will be happy to provide you with directions through email.
